How We Do It

At Amextra, we believe that transformation begins by first working with the community to fulfill basic human needs such as health, education, and food security. We motivate the community to lead the transformation process in order to achieve economic and environmental sustainability for all projects.

PARTICIPATORY METHODS

INMERSION

– We arrive in the community and establish trusting relationships with the local people.

– We identify formal and informal community leaders.

– We identify people who are interested in participating and dedicated to their community.

EXPLORATION

– We use participatory dynamics to explore and learn about the resources in the community.

– We analyze the community needs and prioritize them, while learning about individuals’ dedication to their community and setting the groundwork for a baseline study.

PLANING

– Alongside the community, we study and define high priority needs.

– We emphasize the dedication of the people to their community and the resources they have to solve local problems.

– Together, we design a project with objectives, goals and indicators that allow us to evaluate project impact.

EXECUTION

The community actively participates in the project showing a high level of dedication. Amextra provides support in the form of experts and project facilitators who guide the community using methods adapted to the local context, in order to ensure project sustainability.

EVALUATION

– Amextra carries out an impact evaluation using data from the baseline study as well as results collected during the short and medium term monitoring phases of the project.

– Along with the community, Amextra reviews the impact evaluation results in order to begin a new project cycle.

PHILOSOPHY OF INTEGRAL TRANSFORMATION

Integral Transformation is a spiritual process in which biblical reflection and action develop hand in hand, to give a deeper significance to Amextra’s projects. Our philosophy comes from the biblical verse, Romans 12:1-2.

``Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God -this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will``.

Romans 12: 1-2.

The Bible.

SHOW GRATITUDE FOR WHAT YOU HAVE RECEIVED
Transformation begins when we become aware that regardless of our social or economic condition, we always have something to share with others. Who we are and the talents we have are a gift from God (the mercies of God in our lives). Our families, our houses, our friends and our lives are gifts from God that we share.
MAKE SACRIFICES, CONTRIBUTING TO THE INDIVIDUAL'S TRANSFORMATION AND THAT OF OTHERS
Transformation allows us to be a physical part of a communal sacrifice in which every member of the body contributes to the transformation of others. In this way we share the gifts we have received through God's mercy.
HONOR GOD BY SERVING OTHERS
Transformation begins with a response to the basic needs of the community, but its ultimate objective is to integrate all dimensions of human life in a process that penetrates the spiritual reality of the person and thus brings the person into a celebration of a new life and creation.
CREATE ALTERNATIVES TO THE WORLD'S PROBLEMS
Transformation is a process, which offers alternatives to the destructive patterns of the world. Far from conforming to the world by returning injury with injury, transformation promotes renewal and reconciliation between individuals as well as with their natural and social environments.
TAKE TIME TO REFLECT
Transformation is a constant process of contributing to the transformation of others while contemplating what our experiences mean in light of the Bible. Biblical reflection and service should be done jointly, as they are two inseparable parts of the same experience. When we put thoughts into action, they become more credible. And, reflecting upon our service gives our actions deeper meaning.
EMBODY YOUR SERVICE UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF THE SPIRIT
Transformation is our spirit’s journey, which leads us to experience the incarnation of Christ in our lives. Thus, our lives become the place where God's spirit resides and where we receive the manifestation of His will.
